If you're considering Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine to assist with your fertility concerns, I strongly recommend the following:
*Ladies, please start taking your basal body temperature (BBT) on a DAILY basis. This is done first thing in the morning before you do ANYTHING else. No drink of water, no wiggling to adjust the blankets, no moving. Basically you keep a digital thermometer on your nightstand - or anywhere else where you can simply reach for it while still in bed. A digital thermometer is best because you will need your temperature down to the specific degree. Basal body temperature change is subtle (this is why you need a specific point reading) but it does rise slightly during ovulation. In the case of fertility, complexity is not the key - keeping things SIMPLE is. This is a simple, low-cost way to find out if you are ovulating every month. No need for box tests. Chart your daily BBT either on a printable chart - or you can use a phone app if you prefer. Google search for a printable chart or search in your phone app store for a BBT (they are everywhere and you can choose one you like). I will ask you to keep track of BBT at your visit, so getting a head-start is best.
*Become aware of cervical mucous and changes. This is another simple and easy to way to track ovulation. Cervical mucous varies between individuals, but it will typically be less prevalent, clear and thin when a woman is not ovulating. Around ovulation, mucous will become thicker, stickier and almost have an egg-white-like consistency. It may also become more cloudy or opaque.
*For further readings and support, please check out the following books which clearly outline both Western and TCM (traditional Chinese medical) approach to fertility and conception. "Making Babies: A Proven 3 Month Program for Maximum Fertility" and also, "The Infertility Cure: The Ancient Chinese Wellness Program for Getting Pregnant and Having Healthy Babies."
*Come in for consistent Acupuncture treatment and take your herbs and supplements as directed by your Acupuncturist (moi)! Everyone's fertility challenges are unique, as are you! It may also be necessary for the male partner to come in for treatment as well. I know we all want to give our children the best foundation possible and that CAN be achieved with Chinese medicine.
