In Central Kentucky, we've been having some wild, late summer weather! In addition to it being damp and wet, the temperatures have been anywhere between the mid-60's to the upper 90's. The dramatic shift in temps can really confuse our bodies and fall is making its presence known! In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the changing of the seasons is known as one of the most likely times that illness occurs. My personal experience has noted a particular outbreak of respiratory and allergy-like symptoms here in Lexington, in addition to occasional bouts of what appears to be "stomach flu". All of these issues are best treated as soon as symptoms begin - many of us may feel a faint tickle or scratch in the throat, a tightness in the neck/shoulders or chest, maybe fever and/or chills or just that something is off or not right. In the case of stomach flu, vomiting may accompany symptoms. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can help when cold, flus or allergies strike! Don't hesitate to come in for an appointment when you can feel better quickly. You can even schedule online at the onset of symptoms. No need to stay away and hide, though rest is vital to recuperation. Here's to your health! - Holly Christiansen, Licensed Acupuncturist at Bluegrass Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine.
